The Bottlecheck or "tenthcheck" provides an inexpensive, quick and consistent measurement of liquor bottle contents by presenting a visual 'division' of the liquor bottle into tenths. Since the Bottlecheck is 'stretchy', the size and shape of the bottle does not matter.
Hold the bottom of the Bottlecheck with one hand on the bar next to the bottle as shown in the diagram. Then with your other hand stretch the top of the Bottlecheck to level with the bottom of the neck of the bottle.
Then just note the level of the liquid to the nearest tenth. In the example pictured here, level (a) is nine tenths, and level (b) is six tenths.
BOTTLECHECK Example
The Bottlecheck makes allowances for the different thickness of the bottle at the base and at the neck and adequately accommodates for odd shaped bottles thus providing a consistent stock analysis on bottles of the same shape and size from week-to-week. For example, a triangle-shaped bottle (narrow at the top and wide at the bottom) will clearly have more liquor in the bottom tenth than in the top tenth - but the Bottlecheck will still measure those tenths consistently from one week to the next - so if you have one tenth left in this odd shaped bottle, and have sold none during the week, the Bottlecheck will tell you that you still have one tenth a week later (unless someone has been naughty!)
